JIM PEYTON brings four decades of cooking, teaching, and recipe development experience to this cookbook. He is the author of Jim Peyton’s The Very Best of Tex-Mex Cooking: Plus Texas Barbecue and Texas Chile; Jim Peyton’s New Cooking from Old Mexico; La Cocina de la Frontera: Mexican-American Cooking from the Southwest; and El Norte: The Cuisine of Northern Mexico. Peyton has been featured on Bobby Flay’s Food Network show and in Southern Living; he has written about Mexican food and drink for three Lonely Planet guidebooks to Mexico, and he consults in the areas of recipe and product development for the Mexican food industry. He lives in San Antonio, Texas.

The Real Deal....and Healthy!

After having lived in Mexico (in Toluca-so wasn't used to eating Tex-Mex, we ate authentic Mexican food) I found this cookbook to be one of the best I own. The recipes are very similar to how my suegra (mother-in-law) taught me to cook for my husband. (I'm from PA) The nutrition information is wonderful to have and the ingredients are not things that you wouldn't be able to find in the ethnic section of a larger type grocery store (including Giant & Walmart). It is not overly complicated cooking and the flavors are delicious and, again, authentic. This will be a good purchase for anyone wanting to experience real Mexican cooking, not the generic stuff you get at fast food restaurants or even along the border. Once you get some experience with these recipes you'll be able to make substitutions and create your own. Well worth the purchase price. Congrats to Jim Peyton. I hope you create a volume two!

Not recommended for anyone not living in close proximity to a Mexican grocery store. Too many ingredients that are unavailable in Maine.
